INTRODUCTIONFormer Florida Senator Robert Graham authored the National Child's Day Bill which the U.S. Senate has been working on for some time. The plan is to add National Child's Day to the National Calendar, as the first new holiday to be added since Martin Luther King Day was passed into law. His office has asked Racers Who Care, Inc., a Los Angeles-based 501C3 charitable corporation, to assist in spreading the good word about this fantastic new holiday. We have elected to accomplish this through large annual events encouraging families to celebrate in meaningful ways involving sharing experiences together, rather than allowing National Child’s Day to become just another day for a gift and card.OVERVIEW Racers Who Care plans a large Southern California community Celebration where area children and the significant people in their lives may relax and enjoy each others’ company in an educational environment so stimulating, exciting, and interesting, they won’t realize they are learning! Our goal through this endeavor is to affirm to Southern California children the importance of each as an individual and as an asset to the community by encouraging community and family togetherness on National Child’s Day, making a lasting, unforgettable impact in their lives. Adjunct to these events will be an active community outreach at other events, to children’s groups, and to church groups; and, proposed event-related educational materials and curricula for area schools requiring students to attend the Celebration to work on class assignments. Our goal through this endeavor is to affirm to Southern California children the importance of each as an individual and as an asset to the community by encouraging community and family togetherness on National Child’s Day, making a lasting, unforgettable impact in their lives while increasing sponsors’ exposure throughout the region.
